When I heard some sniggers behind me, I turned around and said to the two gentlemen that I was very proud to wear my crown. Yes, you read that correctly – there are crowns provided in the new Cinderella carriage at The Tea Terrace in Oxford Street and Victoria (part of House of Fraser) and I was loving it!
I visited the Victoria branch where one carriage sits in the middle looking rather majestic. The rest of the restaurant is white, pink and blue pastel colours with floral vintage decorations. The carriage does come at a price – £11.95 per person – and you can stay there for 1 hour 15 minutes, after which you can stay in the restaurant.
You also have to spend £19 per person if you are in the carriage – this basically equates to afternoon tea or a 2/3 course lunch with a drink. We had the traditional afternoon tea where you can choose from a selection of 6 different sandwiches – we had the ham and tomato, cheese and chutney, salmon and cream cheese and egg mayonnaise. We also received two scones each with jam and clotted cream and a selection of cake including lemon drizzle and carrot cake. They also offer different packages with a glass of fizz or petit fours instead of cake.
Lovely concept with the carriage which has clearly caught on given how booked up they are! The afternoon tea itself was not the best I have ever had but is reasonable value in nice surroundings.
