Sutton and Sons is a family run fish and chip shop with three locations across London: Islington, Stoke Newington and Hackney Central.
This week I visited the Islington branch located just under a ten minute walk from Canonbury Station and, although primarily is a take away restaurant, can seat around 30 people (with extra basement seating downstairs).
The menu is pretty broad for a chippy and the meals that we tried were all spot on so it’s not too ambitious for them. We had the Whitebait and the Calamari to start, both were cooked well and tasted great – but be warned they are big portions! The homemade tartar sauce and garlic mayo were great accompaniments.
For the main event we had the Traditional cod and chips and the Scampi and chipwith curry sauce of course! The cod was perfect – so juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside, not oily at all and just the right size. The scampi was delicious too – cooked just right, as were the chips. The curry sauce stole the show, I often find they can be too watery or flavourless but theirs was fantastic – 10/10! The staff were lovely, really friendly and made it a fun experience for us to sit in and munch and natter.
There were young families and old timers popping in and out for their favourite fish and chips and I can see why.
