One of the first things you notice when you arrive here, along with the friendly welcome, and laid back atmosphere, is the fresh fish counter with the chefs hard at work behind it. I knew instantly I was in for a treat here!
Looked after all evening by a super friendly waitresses, we were recommended the Goat’s Cheese Croquette and Spicy Edamame beans for our starters. The Croquette was absolutely perfect, crispy on the outside, and so creamy on the inside it was almost dessert-like! The Edamame beans were not only tasty, but fun to eat – the sensation of the beans popping into your mouth along with a huge kick of the spices that garnish the outside of them was a real treat. A great starter to share!
Our mains consisted of whole lobster with fresh new potatoes, and Ox Steak on mash. both served with a tasty side salad. I have never had lobster before and was so excited to try it, and boy did it not disappoint. The Ox steak really was a “cut” above the rest – not as tender as beef steak, but the explosion of lasting flavour really makes up for the fact you need to chew it a few more times.
We decided to go for a hearty apple crumble and a tasty hazelnut and caramel cheesecake for dessert. The presentation of the cheesecake was so cute, in a little jar with some fresh mint on top. It was so creamy, with the perfect blend of caramel and crunchy hazelnuts all the way through. What hit me when the waitress brought over the desserts was the warm comforting smell of the cinnamon infused apple pie. It was served with delicious vanilla ice cream, which we could have done with some more of as the two really complimented each other so well!
Even if you’re not local to Crystal Palace, this restaurant is worth a visit. About 40 minutes from central London on the Overground, get yourself down there for an amazing experience and the freshest food you could ask for on your plate. Watch this space – they are soon turning half their restaurant into a cosy lounge area if you would rather sip on one of their signature cocktails instead but don’t blame me if the smell of their food tempts you to stay for a bite to eat as well!
