28 West is located a ten minute walk from Canary Wharf Station, with a very attractive view of the city on the riverfront. It’s a large bar and restaurant serving up classic home cooked comforts with modern decor and a nice outdoor area with heating. With plenty of space in the bar and seating in the restaurant there’s also a couple of fussball tables if you want to have a play. We had a very warm greeting from some friendly staff and sat down in the restaurant area with a lovely view over the river.
For our food we had the Falafel and Kale Salad: pickled carrots, red onions & tahini dressing with kale crisps. This was a tasty healthy veggie option and not your normal salad. The falafel was baked so had a soft consistency and had a good kick to it too, the salad was a generous portion and the pickled carrots were a nice touch. We also tried the Chicken & Waffles: savoury waffle with buttermilk fried chicken served with white BBQ sauce. This was great! The chicken was cooked perfectly – crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside and it went well with the savoury waffle. The white BBQ sauce was really tasty and went well with the dish. We also shared some Sweet potato fries which came in a generous portion and were cooked really well.
We sampled a couple of cocktails too, I mean it would have been rude not to! To start we tried the French Martini: Finlandia, Chambord & Pineapple and the Strawberry Daiquiri: Bacardi, Lime juice, Gomme, puree. Both were lovely cocktails! They tasted good and looked great too. We also tried the Sweet Passion Mocktail: Orange & Passionfruit Juice, Passion Fruit Puree. This was tasty but a bit too sweet for me!
From Monday to Friday they have a 2 for 1 cocktail happy hour between 5 and 7pm and at weekends they have club nights with VIP tables available. It’s busiest on weekends and Thursday and Friday nights with it being in Canary Wharf and pretty quiet the rest of the week. I’d recommend it for dinner or cocktails, especially for the view over the river – it’s stunning!
