Nest Restaurant Hackney
Something Fab, Something Unique, Something Passionate
Nest was set up late last year by three long term friends, Luke, Toby and the chef Johnnie who formerly worked at the Capital’s only Michelin Starred pub. The three of them have really created something unique at Nest, with a cosy, laid back and friendly atmosphere serving the most beautiful food you would expect at some of the poshest restaurants in London. At an incredibly affordable price of just £28 per head for the set menu, you can eat what is worthy of a Michelin star for just a fraction of the price.
I heard a lot of great things about this little gem in the heart of Hackney, East London, so I was really excited to try it out!
You can customise your own menu by choosing from the available plates starting from just £2 up to £10 or you have the choice of either the meat or the vegetarian set menu for £28. The menus change with the seasons which is a fantastic way of being able to visit often and always have something different to eat.
From the set menu we had the following amazing dishes: Fermented Cabbage and Caraway with Dill Mayo, Crispy quail Egg roasted in Hay, Mutton, Artichoke, cep vinaigrette and Homemade Soda Bread with homemade Butter. The bread and mutton in particular were to die for!
This was followed by Onion Broth with Lincolnshire Poacher Dumpling, Cod, Pickled Grapes, Almond & Nest’s own take on “Gentleman’s Relish”, Celeriac, Blood Orange & Hazlenut, Faggot, Potato &Mint, Crispy Burford Brown Egg. If we had to pick one dish, the cod was the highlight!
Last but not least we had Nest’s very own homemade Bread & Butter Pudding. What an absolute feast!
Not only were all the dishes we tried full of flavour but all were so beautifully presented and some of the most photogenic food I’ve ever had the pleasure of taking photos of!
