Malmaison Hotel in Clerkenwell
Afternoon Tea in London
We had the pleasure of teaming up with Flavour Venue Search to jointly host a bloggers afternoon tea in London meet up at Malmaison, which is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Farringdon just behind Charterhouse Square.
We had anticipated a hotel restaurant vibe at Malmaison but were nicely surprised with the sleek and bold interiors. The restaurant combines urban style with a touch of Moulin Rouge and Las Vegas featuring exposed brick walls and plush leather seating.
The artist, Xenz, is one of the top three graffiti artists in London, and was commissioned to paint the lobby. He based it on the trees from The Charterhouse, bringing the outside in with beautiful butterflies, birds and flowers, which is really beautiful.
We had the Champagne Afternoon Tea (£27) served with a selection of teas including traditional breakfast tea, green tea, peppermint and lemon & ginger.
We were served with a smoked salmon, cucumber & cream cheese bagel, an egg mayonnaise sub roll and a Louisiana chicken slider from the savoury selection. Malmaison mixed things up a bit by using different bread varieties, as opposed to traditional sandwiches, which was a nice touch.
These were followed by warm fruit and plain scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam. As usual, these were the highlight of the afternoon tea for me! The selection of sweet treats featured:
- miniature milkshake
- salted caramel chocolate brownie
- double chocolate cupcake
- raspberry cheesecake
- Bakewell tart.
The Tang Dynasty was our favourite cocktail with Lychee liqueur, Chambord, lime juice, orange juice, blueberries, raspberries. It wasn’t too sweet and hit the spot well after afternoon tea!
We also sampled the Mal Mademoiselle with Singsby Rhubarb Gin, apricot, egg white, cranberry juice, lime juice and the Lady Parma with Absolut Raspberry, Pama pomegranate juice, cranberry juice, sugar syrup, lemonade.
Malmaison offers a plentiful and satisfying afternoon tea in London. We were left content and full and the staff were super accommodating. We look forward to checking out their Friday night happy hour from 5pm to 8pm with £5 cocktails.
