Restaurant in Vauxhall
After recently visiting 4 Degree Restaurant in Vauxhall at St George Wharf I really kicked myself for not knowing about them sooner! Opened around 7 months ago, this restaurant has it all – fine dining, great atmosphere, a dining terrace, a huge bar, private areas for functions, and a whiskey room! Not to mention the super friendly staff – it really is all class without the snobbery at 4 Degree.
4 Degree is a beautifully modern restaurant combining European food with Japanese cuisine. With a Sushi bar inside the restaurant, a main kitchen and a huge bar there is something for everyone. Downstairs you will find the main seating area for food and drinks, as well as an outside terrace overlooking the Thames.
The ground floor also holds several private dining rooms, all of different sizes which you can hire with a minimum spend. The best part is that each of them is equipped with a karaoke system which is included in the price! It is all hooked up to the internet so you can search for any song you want to sing!
Upstairs you will find further semi-private dining areas which are perfect for work events and Christmas parties. It is also home to the UK’s first and only Macallan Lounge, which is a treat if you are into your whiskey. There is one bottle in there worth £80,000!
If you are someone who usually eats on a budget then I would recommend this restaurant for a special occasion as the prices are quite high. That said, you do get super quality food and a great experience which makes it worth it.
Sipping on a gorgeous Argentinian Malbec, we chose the Spicy Edamame beans (£5.60) and the Chicken Kara-age (£9.60) to start. The spicy edamame’s were steamed and seasoned with hot spices and were absolutely delicious. The Chicken Kara-age is deep fried marinated chicken with lemon and was so succulent and tender. We could not get enough of the spicy Japanese mayo that came as a dip for it either.
For our mains we had the Lobster with Tarragon Sauce & Saffron Rice (£38) with Asparagus in butter on the side. The lobster was incredible and so soft and full of flavour. The saffron rice was to die for – I have never had rice that melted in my mouth before. A really great dish with lots of flavour.
We also tried the Lamb Rump with Japanese Yam Potato (£28) with sticky rice on the side. The dish was cooked perfectly (medium) and the delicate flavor of the sauce allowed for the subtle flavours of the lamb. I loved their take on ‘apple sauce’ with two thinly peeled cooked apple slices.
For dessert we shared a Chocolate Bar (£11) which was so beautifully presented. The dessert tasted as good as it looked with crumbly macadamia shortbread, caramel ganache and baked white chocolate ice cream. It truly was a hearty dessert without being too rich.
This restaurant in Vauxhall has to be up there with some of the most stunning restaurants in London. It is definitely a hidden gem which you could easily walk when taking a stroll along the Thames. Go inside and see how beautifully they have decorated the place, find all the hidden dining rooms and sing your heart out. Immerse yourself amongst all the incredible bottles of whiskey they have to offer, meet the extremely friendly staff and DEFINITELY try their food!
