Family run restaurant moments away from Liverpool Street station in the heart of the city is Dilchad, a restaurant established in 1962 by the Choudhury family originally hailing from Bengal.

Recently refurbished and with a new menu inspired by a michelin star chef who trained the Dilchad chefs for a number of months, there are some more unusual and interesting dishes on the menu including ostrich and guinea-fowl.

For starters we obviously had some popadums (with some great chutneys) – I personally prefer them a little larger but that is probably me being rather greedy…


We then had the Rosemary Malai Chicken Tikka marinated in hung curd and rosemary and the Aloo Tikki – pan fried potato patties with mint and taramind dressing, both of which were really tasty.

On to the main dishes we had the Duck Jalfrezie with vegetables and the Butter Chicken with some Khajori naan (like peshwari naaan but with dates) which was tasty. We rated the butter chicken which was creamy and flavoursome. The duck had a kick to it, which was good but could have been a little more tender.

Reasonable prices at Dilchad and I liked the more inventive menu – one thing to note is Dilchad does not serve alcohol so we had some mocktails which were actually pretty tasty.
