Eco is an authentic Italian restaurant which has been trading for 24 years (!) . Find Eco next to Clapham Common Station where they serve up tasty pizza, pasta and other Italian treats.
Eco has recently had a refurbishment and it’s really paid off, it looks gorgeous. The restaurant is spacious and has an open plan kitchen with a big pizza oven so you can watch the magic happening. The decor is modern and comforting and the staff are really wonderful, you feel like one of the family when you visit here.
The menu at Eco Clapham is varied but sticks to the wonderful Italian classics we know and love. We started with some sourdough bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar which was really tasty, the bread is baked freshly every day in their wood fire oven and you can definitely tell. We then moved on to our starters of Avocado and Rocket Bruschetta: with fresh chilli, tomato, coriander and parmesan and the Salt and Pepper Squid: deep fried in sourdough batter. Both of these were great, the calamari was crispy and not too chewy and the garlicky sauce was fantastic. The bruschetta was beautiful to look at and even better to eat, all of the ingredients are freshly prepared and the quality shines through – it had a great kick to it with the chilli too.
For our mains we tried the Grilled Chicken Breast: with wild mushroom sauce on spaghetti and the Stone Bass: Aegeaen Stone Bass fillets panfried with fennel, zucchini, tomatoes, olives and capers – I opted to have mine with a fresh salad. Both mains were delicious. The chicken was perfectly grilled and the mushroom sauce was out of this world – using porcini mushrooms gives an earthy meaty taste that went perfectly with the spaghetti. The stone bass was cooked to perfection with thick juicy flesh and crispy skin and the accompanying sauce was delicious, the capers and the olives mixing with rich tomatoey sauce – it was just fantastic.
Desert was just as great, we opted for some Raspberry Sorbet which was fresh and zesty and the Panna Cotta which was well set and tasted fantastic with a raspberry coulis on top. We were fit to burst but still polished them both off!
We had our arms twisted, although it didn’t take much, to try some of their signature cocktails. We went for a classic Raspberry Bellini which was fresh and fruity and tasted great. We also the house classic of Gin Giardino: made with Tanquery gin, elderflower syrup, apple and fresh cucumber – this was one of the best cocktails I’ve ever tried! Not to sweet but not sour at all and full of fresh flavours – delicious!
At Eco they have a lot of regulars that have been coming for years and it’s easy to see why, with great service from friendly fun staff and amazing food and drinks too it’s a great place to visit.
