Jamie’s Italian has a few branches across London, the branch I visited was located in Canary Wharf just a five minute walk from Canary Wharf tube or DLR .
It’s a very large open-plan restaurant and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The décor is modern and attractive and there’s a lovely little outdoor terrace for when the weather is good!
The menu is vast and varied and I’d challenge anyone to not find a dish they liked! We tried the ‘quick and easy dinner’ deal runs from Sunday to Thursday from 6pm until closing and costs just £15.95 for a starter and main and you can also add a dessert for just £3. The risk of a set menu are that the choices are not usually that great, however, I was really impressed by the choices on this quick and easy dinner and struggled to pick my meals!
We started with the Crispy Squid & Smashed Avo: crispy fried sustainable squid with very smashed avocado for dunking. This was so tasty, the squid was crispy and full of flavour and the avocado was creamy and was such a good idea for a dip!
For our mains we had the Aubergine Penne Arrabbiata: fresh pasta with fiery tomato & garlic sauce, fried aubergine, olives & fresh chilli and the Sizzling Sirloin: British sirloin steak served the way you like it, with garlicky cherry tomatoes, aubergine, basil & fries (£3 supplement). The pasta was heavenly, cooked all dente in a spicy rich tomato sauce and the chunks of fried aubergine were so flavoursome. The steak was cooked perfectly, well-seasoned and came on a bed of tasty garlic tomatoes and aubergine which was delicious on its own.
Along with our starters and mains we had a few nibbles including the bread plank with a gorgeous olive tapenade and some mixed olives, which were fresh and juicy, and some marinated roasted peppers which were really tasty.
We also tried a couple of cocktails, the Elderflower Spritz was delicious with elderflower liqueur, prosecco and soda water it was very refreshing, and the Berry Blast mocktail packed full of strawberry and passionfruit puree with cranberry juice was fab.
For long lunches or a quick spot for dinner, Jamie’s Italian is an ideal location in Canary Wharf.
