Best Selection of Starters in Camden
I was really excited to visit Little Havana in Camden and had been eyeing up the menu all day, trying to figure out which starter I should go for. What’s great about the menu is if you’re feeling peckish enough there is a deal where you can choose three starters for £18 – bargain! So naturally we decided this was our best option!
With some guidance to choosing the best ones from our fab waitress, we opted for the Stuffed Fried Plantain with Pulled Beef, Pork Belly, and Fried Cassava Wedges. Usually there’s a clear winner when I try various dishes at a restaurant, but at Little Havana I literally couldn’t decide! Not only was the crispiness of the tasty plantain a great combo with the tender beef that filled these delicious fried cups, but it was one of the prettiest dish I’ve ever seen plus the waitress confirmed that everything on the plate was edible (including the cute little flowers!).
Now I’m a huge fan of pork belly and the only criticism I could have for this dish was there wasn’t enough! It was amazing – crackling at it’s crunchiness and at it’s best, with the gooeyness of the pork underneath. This starter was fantastic and in all truthfulness was a generous portion – I’m just being greedy! Last but no means least, the Fried Cassava Wedges were really tasty and a great snack to have in between dipping into the plantain and the pork belly!
Amazing Quality AND Quantity of Food
I certainly recommend visiting this place if you’re hungry as they are extremely generous with their portion sizes! For mains, we tried the Red Snapper, complete with rice and black beans, and also the Cuban Style Marinated Grilled Beef Skewers complete with black bean rice and fried cassava wedges. Our plates were piled high with food and smelled incredible. There were lots of flavours going on, with every mouthful being a different taste. The beef skewers were delicious and tender, and the fried red snapper was a real treat.
The Sweet Stuff
Whilst spending time at this awesome Cuban bar and restaurant, we felt it was only polite to try some of the cocktails and just about squeezed in the two desserts on the menu too. We absolutely loved the El Presidente, the Silver Pineapple and of course the classic Pina Colada!
The desserts (rum and raisin ice cream and rice pudding with mango pulp) were tasty but probably my least favourite course of the evening. With this place it’s all about the starter and main meals! I want to go back to try their amazing Paella (which are only available on weekends but available in seafood, chicken or vegetarian!).
Great Place, Great Staff
Lovely décor, great music, fantastic and friendly staff. The food is fab and what’s more, if you fancy a dance then head down on a Friday or Saturday evening when they have a DJ and turn part of the restaurant into a dance floor! Definitely recommended!
