Restaurant in Islington
Salut is an absolute gem of a Modern European restaurant in Islington at the top of Essex Road. Salut offers a casual fine dining experience with amazing food and a relaxed and rustic atmosphere with an open kitchen. The restaurant offers fantastic food with friendly and attentive service that is not over the top, which I much prefer. The owner, Martin, is passionate about his business and food and this definitely shines through.
The menu offers 3-4 dishes for each course, keeping the choice simple and maintaining the quality. The presentation of each dish was spectacular and clearly a lot of thought had gone into choosing the menu.
We started with Green Asparagus, Pickled White Asparagus, Artichoke Heart, Red Cabbage, Cured Egg Yolk and Bread and Truffle Butter. The asparagus was delicious and oh my, I loved the truffle butter!
For mains, we chose the Suffolk Lamb – with three different cuts of lamb – Loin, Sweetbreads & Neck, Radish, Kale & Wild Garlic. We also had the Salt Hake, English Octopus, Shredded Kohlrabi, Garden Peas with some potatoes and stemmed broccoli with sesame seeds. I absolutely loved the lamb which was so tender and flavoursome and, surprisingly, couldn’t get enough of the broccoli!
We somehow managed to fit in a couple of desserts – Poached Rhubarb, Vanilla Crème Patissier, Crème Fraiche Sorbet & Rhubarb Jelly and Chocolate Caramel Gateau, Orange Parfait, Honeycomb. The rhubarb in particular was absolutely amazing.
This gorgeous restaurant in Islington is the perfect dining experience with reasonable prices and great quality food. The menu changes regularly to mix things up a little and the staff are lovely.
