The Alfred Tennyson is located on Motcomb Street just over a five minute walk from Knightsbridge station. The building itself is beautiful and inside it’s decorated very tastefully. There is an attractive bar on the lower level, a dining room the next level up, a private dining room the level above that and finally a loft room which you can also hire out for private functions (it has its own bar too!).
We were warmly greeted and started off with some cocktails. We tried the British Bellini with prosecco and elderflower and the Crispy leaf which was gin, elderflower liqueur and apple juice. Both cocktails were refreshing and tasty and presented nicely.
After our tipple we headed upstairs to the lovely dining room, again the service was great. We started with Roasted & pickled broccoli with radish, mustard greens, cob nuts and from the specials menu the Fishcakes served with a sweetcorn relish. The fishcakes were well seasoned, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside – they tasted great with the relish too. The broccoli was fantastic, such simple flavour combinations which married beautifully and tasted great.
For our mains we chose from the specials menu, sampling the Burger of the day which was beef served with chips and the Fish of the day which was a big chunky piece of cod served with kale, leeks and cauliflower. The burger was big fat and juicy, flavoursome and cooked perfectly – basically a great burger! The fish was also great – with crispy skin and flaky flesh it went really well with the accompanying veggies.
To finish we shared the Baked lemon cheesecake with passion fruit and raspberry sorbet. What a way to finish the meal! A light but creamy cheesecake which wasn’t too overpowering on flavour with a creamy fresh and zingy sorbet – heaven! I would definitely recommend The Alfred Tennyson, perhaps for a date night with its romantic lighting and lovely food!
