Restaurant in Victoria Park
The Empress is a lovely gastro pub in Victoria Park Village with a cosy feel and friendly staff. The menu tends to change on a weekly basis but they keep it simple with 5 or 6 dishes on offer. For starters, we chose the Parmesan Fritters and the Spicy cod and salmon fritters. Both dishes were filling and flavoursome – we wondered if the parmesan would be a little dry but it was not at all.
For mains we opted for the Lamb and the Cote De Bouef for two with chunky chips, spinach and béarnaise sauce which were both filling and tasty. The lamb and steak were a little on the fatty side but still tasty!
Expect good quality at this restaurant in Victoria Park but be prepared to pay a little more than you would do at a typical pub.
Also, keep an eye out for the restaurant’s special deals on a Monday and Tuesday. On Monday, you can have a main course (they seem to change on the website every week or two) and a glass of fizz or a pint for only £10. On a Tuesday evening, they offer BYOB from Bottle Apostle across the road for no corkage fee. A much cheaper night out early in the week!
