Restaurant in Angel
Thai Square are a chain of restaurants with a number of branches around London. Established in 1996 they have been serving up Thai food full of spice and flavour since then. We were invited to the restaurant in Angel to try out their vegan menu.
The restaurant is really attractive with plant covered walls, beautiful art work and a big gold Buddha as you walk in. The restaurant is very spacious with dimmed lighting giving a cosy but modern feel . The staff were lovely and so attentive and helpful.
We were visiting to try out the vegan set menu which has recently been launched. The menu costs £30 for three courses and it was certainly value for money.
We started with the Mixed Starter which was a selection of Vegetable Spring Rolls, Corn Cake, Vegetable Tempura and Vegetable & Tofu Satay. Every bit of this selection was delicious – I would struggle to choose a favourite as I loved them all. The spring rolls were crispy and filled with a tasty vegetable filling and the corn cakes were deep fried little delicious corn nuggets. The tempura was crispy and with a great selection of veggies, even broccoli!
The next course on the set menu is a traditional Thai soup Tom Yum Hed. We opted out of this because we were worried about being too stuffed for the main course!
The main courses range from the typical Thai green curry to a spicy aubergine dish. We chose the Sweet & Sour Bean Curds and Tofu with Cashew Nuts served with a side of Steamed Jasmine Rice and Mixed Vegetables with Garlic Sauce. Both mains were absolutely delicious – the sweet and sour sauce was sticky and indulgent and the cashew sauce was salty and so tasty. The garlic veggies were also great and the rice perfectly cooked.
The cocktail menu at Thai Square is really impressive so obviously we had to try a few! We started with the Lychee Martini and the Chiang-Rai Heaven (mocktail). The martini was delicious and served with a plump lychee too. The Chiang-Rai Heaven was really tasty, with a mixture of fresh lychee, lychee juice and grenadine
The last cocktail we tried was Golden which was gin based with St Germain liquer, fresh yuzu juice, dashes of rose syrup, a pinch of gold dust and topped with champagne. It tasted just as fancy as it looked! Who doesn’t like drinking gold dust?!
This thai restaurant in Angel is really attractive with lovely staff and great food. The vegan menu was well thought up and nothing was lacking in any of the meals – I would highly recommend.
