Taiwanese Restaurant in Marylebone
Bao & Bing Taiwanese restaurant in Marylebone serves up delicious food inspired by the night markets of Taipei and Juifen. The design of the restaurant takes inspiration from Taiwanese Teahouses in the 50s and 60s and it oozes style and decadence. With sultry low lighting and gorgeous décor, this restaurant is a great date spot!
We started off our feast with some Sweet and sour pork ribs: in sesame and spring onion (£3.80) and Steamed Edamame: tossed in chilli and sea salt(£3.50). The edamame was so fiery and we loved the edition of the chilli which gave the dish a great kick. The pork ribs fell off the bone and were succulent and flavoursome with the sticky sauce.
The Bao Buns
Next up came all of the bao’s – literally! We tasted every bao on the menu and certainly did not regret it! So here they are…
- Pork belly: with chilli, cilantro, chiu chow mayo (£4.70)
- BBQ Chicken: with red chilli, spring onion, chilli garlic miso (£4.90)
- 5 Spiced beef: with cilantro, sweet peppers, wasabi mayo dressing (£5.20)
- Panko shrimp: with wok cabbage, red chilli, cilantro, spicy sesame sauce (£5.50
- Crispy shredded duck: with cucumber, spring onion, hoisin sauce (£4.70)
- Shiitake mushroom fritter: with wok cabbage, red chilli, cilantro, chiu chow mayo, teriyaki (£4.50)
Each bao was incredible and some of the best we have had in London. The buns were fluffy and small enough so you could eat enough of them. The pork belly was packed full of flavour and we loved the mayo accompaniment. We also rated the panko shrimp which had a spicy kick to compliment the perfect crispy shrimp. The Shiitake fritter was also delicious, both crispy and soft and so full of delicious flavour. Lastly, the five spiced beef had a great depth of flavour that complemented the sweet peppers so well.
Finally, for dessert we tried the Wheelcake: a traditional Taiwanese street food comprising of two sweet pancake layers sandwiched around custard, chocolate or red bean filling (£3). We opted for custard and chocolate and oh my it was good – super indulgent, gooey and delicious.
