Bar Elba

Rooftop Bar in Waterloo

This rooftop bar in Waterloo is a hidden gem and one of the newest rooftops in London. Located just moments away from Waterloo station, there is signage to point you in the right direction. Expect quite a few flights of stairs to reach the top! On the way up there are motivational quotes to keep you going based around Napoleon’s Exile in Paradise. Drunk on power, Napoleon almost achieved his goal of European domination, but he got himself exiled to the Mediterranean island of Elba. He took 600 of his closest mates and his favourite horse, Marengo, with him. He stayed for 300 days!

It has much more outdoor space then its competitors, a relaxed atmosphere and food and drink at reasonable prices. It is partially covered in some places and further down near the bar area is an open space.

The Cocktails

The menu has a huge range of cocktails including the popular Porn Star Martini, Aperol Spritz and Frose (£10-11.50) The best news is that they offer happy hour 2-for-1 on all cocktails from 4 pm until 6 pm Sunday to Wednesday. This is an absolute bargain considering you can order any of the cocktails from the menu!

They also offer a few different beers, ciders, white, red rose and sparkling wine. We had a light Santome rose (small glass £4 / medium £6) which is refreshing for the summertime.

The Food

We had already eaten so sadly did not try the food but we were impressed with the selection. This included Flatbreddas: spiced shawarmas all served in a sourdough flatbread, hummus, middle eastern slaw and a variety of sauces. The choices included spiced lamb shoulder and mixed chicken and lamb.

There is also food from Dip and Flip including their reowned flips (burger dipped in gravy), hot wings and patty melt. If you fancy something healthier they also have Na Kanaka Poke bowls including spicy salmon poke and Vietnamese chicken.

Overall

What an awesome rooftop bar in Waterloo offering food from a selection of traders and great happy hour cocktails. It was so nice to actually find space to sit at the benches on a Sunday without having to worry about queuing or getting squashed!
