Dirty Bones specialises in American style sticky meat dishes from burgers and short rib to fried chicken and waffles. Luckily for me, a new branch opened a few months ago in Shoreditch (Bethnal Green Road, next to Beach Blanket Babylon).
The restaurant has high ceilings and grand decorations – mirrors on the walls, old fashioned adverts and purple sofas across the walls.
After seeing so much on Instagram, I just had to try the Mac Daddy which is a 6oz burger topped with pulled beef short rib, mac & cheese and homemade BBQ sauce. As we wanted to share, our waiter offered to cut the burger in half for us, which was sweet of him. Sadly, it looked better than it tasted – it was slightly dry (I did have it cooked medium which may have made a difference) and it could have done with more bbq sauce.
On the other hand, the beef short rib with salted caramel & burnt onion BBQ sauce, crispy shallots and spring onions was AMAZING. Flavoursome and just fell off the bone with limited fat. I also rated my side of skinny fries topped with crispy lamb sweet miso, red chilli and jalapeño, which were a nice change to usual.
I also rated the desserts of milk & cookie – milk gelato (so creamy!) and soft baked chocolate ganache cookie and the frozen berries and white chocolate sauce on a freshly baked waffle.
The atmosphere was good and the service was even better so would definitely return to try out some of the other dishes. Also check out the boozy brunch at the weekends!
