Firedog is a new Turkish restaurant in Fitzrovia located in between both Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Circus tube stations. The restaurant serves up Turkish food with a modern twist, most of their food is cooked on open fire or the ‘firedog’.
The restaurant itself is pretty cool, well decorated with intimate lighting. The staff are friendly and happy to help – the service we received was fantastic.
To start with we went for a few hot mezes dishes. We tried the Charred octopus with smoked corn puree. This was so tasty! You get big chunks of octopus which are so tender and not at all rubbery and it marries well with the smokey corn puree. We also had some Hummus with burnt sumac butter and bread, which was one of the best I’ve ever had!. Then, our favourite Chilli glazed charcoal prawns with seaweed – the prawns were so flavoursome, with a great kick of chilli which wasn’t too overpowering. The sauce was delicious and the bread mopped it up really well.
For our mains, from the firedog, we had the 30 day aged Urfa chilli rubbed rib eye  which was so soft and tender, really well cooked and very flavoursome. We also tried the Stuffed graffiti aubergine, aged feta – It was good but the overriding flavour was the feta and I didn’t feel like you could taste much else. However, if you like feta then you’d like this!
For desert we could only just about squeeze in the Hot chocolate delight which was a hot chocolate cake with raspberries. It was a light tasty sponge and the raspberries made it really good.
Whilst the food was really good at Firedog, the cocktails definitely stole the show! We had the recommended Lambs floss: hibiscus gin, pomegranate syrup, grapefruit juice, rose water, sour cherry compote – which comes with candy floss rose petals & a turkish delight!
We also had the No Smoke Without Fire: Havana Especial, pineapple syrup, chargrilled pineapple, lime, chilli, cream. smoked yoghurt, which comes with marshmallows & a lime bowl with Wray and Nephew which they flame for you! Both cocktails were original, tasty and real attention grabbers!
Firedog serves up some really good food and impressive cocktails – the cost of a three course meal for two with a cocktail each comes to around £100, so a good choice for a treat night out. If you fancy Turkish with a twist in a very cool restaurant then this is the place for you!
