There are several branches of Gaucho over London – I visited the Broadgate branch near Liverpool Street. They have a lovely outside area for eating and drinking – perfect for the summer but equally nice on a winters day, as they have blankets and heaters. The interior is beautiful with seating at the bar upstairs and the restaurant downstairs.
Gaucho is infamous for its cuts of steak. The waiters bring out the raw meat before you order and explain the different cuts and what wine compliments the meat. If you don’t fancy the steak, Gaucho also offers burgers, lamb cutlets, chicken, pork and fish.
I tried the churrasco de chorizo which was marinated in garlic, parsley and olive oil with fries. The steak was flavoursome but sadly not that tender and it was also a little fatty (perhaps I picked the wrong cut) and the fries were lukewarm. Given Gaucho is meant to be one of the top steak restaurants, I was a little disappointed but I know others have had a betterr experience. On the plus side, the staff were knowledgeable and attentive.
Would like to visit Gaucho again in case I just went on a bad day! However, as it stands, I would prefer to spend my money in Goodman (see separate review).
