Dine with a view at Hutong restaurant, situated on Level 33 of the Shard. The restaurant serves a range of dishes from Northern China and is appropriately themed throughout.
We opted for the Experience lunch menu (served between 12 and 2.45) for £35 pp, which is a great way to try a selection of dishes – the portion sizes were also much larger than I expected.
We started with a portion each of poached seabass in lamb broth, followed by four colourful dumplings – (1) XO sauce crystal prawn dumpling (2) Cod and seaweed dumpling with tobiko (3) Rosé Champagne shrimp dumpling (4) Seasonal mushroom and cabbage dumpling
To share, we were served with (1) Ma la baby cuttlefish Fried with dried chilli, Sichuan pepper and Chinese celery (2) Wok fried chicken with Sichuan black bean & ginger sauce (3) Chef’s pickled vegetable fried rice with egg and (4) Wok tossed Choy Sum. One of our guests did not want cuttlefish, so we were given an extra prawn dish, which was good of them.
My favourite dishes were the dumplings and the work fried chicken but everything was great – spicy and flavoursome and well presented.
The atmosphere and views are just wonderful and the lunch menu surprisingly does not break the bank! Recommended.
