Le Mercury Deuxieme is a spin off from its sister restaurant Le Mercury (about 10 doors down on Upper Street) but is more spacious with a candlelight and vintage decor.
Serving French food at very reasonable prices, this is one of my favourite restaurants not just in Angel but in London!
The menu has set prices for starters, mains and desserts. Starters are £4.45 and include soup, ham hock, beef carpaccio, calamari, mussels and goats cheese. Mains are priced at £10.95 and include gnocchi, fishcakes, sea bass, pork belly, duck and rib eye steak. Lastly, the desserts are only £3.45 and include sticky toffee pudding, creme brulee, cheesecake and dark chocolate tart.
I personally recommend the calamari and carpaccio to start, the duck is gorgeous and not fatty and the creme brulee is delightful. Only constructive criticism is the steak was a little fatty but rib eye is notorious fatty.
The service was brilliant – attentive but not pushy. The alcohol is even reasonably priced with a bottle of pinot grigio only £14.95.
