Booked a table on “star deals” on bookatable which gave us 4 courses with free flowing prosecco for 1.5 hours for £35 (plus service). Pretty good value I must say.
M Restaurant won the ‘Best New Restaurant 2015’ in the Harpers Awards and its head chef joined from Chiltern Firehouse (see separate review on this).It is a beautifully styled restaurant with two restaurants, M GRILL & M RAW, a cocktail bar, a wine tasting room and private dining and events spaces.
With all free flowing dinners, there is always the fear that the prosecco will not be as free flowing as one would hope. However, I was nicely surprised when my glass was consistently topped up when it was only half empty.
The set menu for our deal had 3 choices for starter and main and two choices for dessert. We started off the evening with small “bites” – edamame with firecracker sauce and puffed beef. This was followed by a starter of chicken karage with garlic mayonnaise and chilli:
The other options were cured trout and kangaroo tartar mushrooms.
The main dish is where I got excited – a 200g Argentine Black Angus Rump Steak with chips and baby gem salad. Really nice cut of meat with little fat and lovely flavour.
The other choices for mains were mussels or cauliflower risotto.
Lastly, for dessert we had a honey cake, which sadly did not live up to expectations but there was also a mousse on offer.
Overall, good venue, good food and service and a lot of fizz.
