Pachamama East

Peruvian restaurant in Shoreditch

Pachamama East is an excellent Peruvian restaurant in Shoreditch, from the same group as the original Pachamama in Marylebone. The group’s mission is to introduce exciting, diverse and playful dining concepts to the London restaurant scene.

Pachamama East

This restaurant focuses on infusing Peruvian cuisine with Chinese to create a fantastic menu. The interiors are light and fresh with wooden tables, festoon lighting and cool floor tiling. Did you know that Pachamama in Peru can be translated to “Mother Earth”?

The Cocktails and Drinks

There is a selection of 12 cocktails ranging from £8-11. We would have been happy with all of them!

We started with two gin cocktails – the Tarocco: Blood Orange Gin, Raspberry, Campari, Soda (£8) and Avianca: Gin, Violet, Maraschino, Lemon (£9). Both of the drinks were light and refreshing, a great apertif before dinner. The violet in the Avianca was not overpowering or too sweet.

We also could not resist a Pisco Sour 2.0 with Lime Hydrosol (£10). The drink’s name obviously comes from pisco, which is its base liquor. The cocktail term sour refers to the sour citrus juice and it was amazing.

We also tried a Pinot Noir, Mas De Chevaliere, Languedoc, France 2017 (organic) (£10.50). It was a pale ruby colour with strawberry and raspberry overtones.

They also offer a #outofoffice drinks menu between 3-7pm where they offer cocktails for £6-7.

Snack Section of the Menu

This was my favourite section of the menu – so many good options. We had the:

  • PADRÓN PEPPERS, CHILLI, SALT (£5.5)
  • SICHUAN FRIED CHICKEN, ATACAMA SAUCE (£7)
  • PORK BELLY CHICHARRONES (£6.5)
  • LAMB ANTICUCHOS, YUZU KOSHO (£2 each)

The Padron Peppers had plenty of salt which made them ever so moreish! We were big fans of the Atacama hot sauce served with the chicken (3 large pieces) and the Lamb Anticuchos (skewers) were great value at £2 each.

We also loved the Pork Belly Chicharrones which had a kick to them and a crispy texture from the fried skin.

Other Peruvian Plates

The small plates menu has a selection of ceviche dishes including seabass, scallop and yellowfin tuna. We opted for the Grilled Asaparagus, Yellow Bean Sauce (£7) to add some greens to our meal.

Although the options from the noodles and rice menu were appealing, we were drawn to two dishes from the large plates menu. Firstly, was the Duck On Rice (£16). The textures of the rice and sauce were smooth and complimented the duck. However, we thought the dish was a little steep at £16 given the duck was fairly small.

The Sweet Spicy Chicken, Snap Peas (£12) was a fantastic dish. Be warned though – you do need some water when eating this dish. The coating on the chicken was delicious without being too heavy and the accompanying snap peas were tasty.

Overall

We were so impressed with the menu at Pachamama East Peruvian restaurant in Shoreditch. The dishes were bold and flavoursome, the staff were friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed.

It is fantastic that they have a separate vegetarian and vegan menu and tasting menus for lunch and dinner. They also have Pisco Sour masterclasses which sound super fun!
