RESTAURANTS IN NICE
Chez Davia – 11Bis Rue Grimaldi, 06000 Nice, France
Lovely authentic family run French restaurant in Rue Grimaldi. Some seating outside and more inside – the waiters were really friendly and the owner comes out to take your money at the end of the meal. She was very sweet to me when I explained that she had undercharged me!
We had the cordon bleu and the veal shank, which both came with potatoes. Both were large portions and the cordon bleu in particular was flavoursome. We finished off with the lightest and tangiest lemon tart I have ever had!
Would recommend – meal for two with drinks was around 60 Euros.
Bistro Romain – 36 Cours Saleya, 06000 Nice, France
Bistro Romain is based in the Old Town and has a large indoor and outdoor al fresco dining area. They have a variety of set lunch and dinner menus available or the standard a la carte menu.
We opted for the entrecote and risotto – both flavoursome and decent portions:
The desserts were really fantastic – delicious creme brulee and strawberry sorbet:
The staff were friendly even when there was a slight miscommunication in respect of the bill. Meal for 2 with drinks was around 60Euros.
Villa d’Este Nice – 6 Rue Massena, 06000 Nice, France
Lovely Italian restaurant near Place Massena in the heart of Nice’s city centre, Villa d’Este Nice has a large outside al fresco area and modern seating inside.
The menu had traditional Italian food including a wide selection of pizzas and pastas, as well as some good Italian wines. Very reasonably priced for the amount you get – seriously large portions so make sure you are hungry! We opted for the beef lasagne and the pasta with meatballs and pancetta:
All meals were priced around 12-16 Euros which, for the portion size and central location, is very good value!
La Brioche Chaude – 33 Rue Carnot, 74000 Annecy
What a lovely bakery by Notre Dame offering a large selection of breakfast and lunch products for very reasonable prices. We had pastries, juice, coffee and a sandwich for around 8Euros!
BARS IN NICE
Waynes – 15 Rue de la Préfecture, 06300 Nice, France
I usually avoid bars / pubs that remind me of England or look too touristy, so I was slightly skeptical when I stepped into Waynes Bar in the Old Town.
However, I was not disappointed – what a fun bar! Mixture of tourists and locals, friendly staff and live bands every night. We ended up listening to a live band in the back room and at about 11pm they said “everyone get up and dance on the tables” – it caught on quickly and everyone was up dancing on the wooden tables and benches, which was such a good atmosphere.
Drinks were around 7/8 Euros for a cocktail and 6Euros for a beer so fairly normal prices for Nice. What a great evening!
