Drake and Morgan Cocktail Bar
Drake and Morgan is making a big name for itself in London with the likes of the Drift Bar at the bottom of the Heron Tower, the Refinery in City Point and the Otherist opposite Tower 42.
The newest addition is The Allegory tucked into Principal Place, ideally located in Shoreditch.
The Mood
The interior is Drake and Morgan esq, decorated with modern interiors combined with bright colours and quirky additions such as fur on the chairs.
The Allegory has a large bar area if you just fancy a drink (and bar snacks are also served) with a separate restaurant area and a large outdoor space.
The Cocktails
The cocktail list is easy to navigate as it gives you an idea of the taste of the cocktail using a chart. It splits them between sour, sweet, floral and spicy.
We started with a Calypso – Pampero rum, amaro di angostura, lime sugar & egg white (under the Fiery Sours column) and the popular Porn Star Martini – cariel vanilla vodka, passion fruit & proseco under the Philosopher’s Stone section.
Both looked beautiful and tasted pretty great too! Later in the afternoon we also tried a Brandy Snap courvoisier, double cream, ginger, nutmeg & condensed milk. This was strong and had a spicy kick which added to the flavour. The Ginger Mimosa with orange juice, fresh ginger and ginger ale was refreshing.
The Food
On to the lunch, we were spoilt for choice with a great selection of small bites from the “while you wait” section as well as starters and flatbread and sharing boards.
We were both drawn to the Crispy Duck Flatbread with cucumber, spring onion, sesame & hoisin. For only £10.95, it is so reasonably priced for a sharing starter given how huge it was and piled with duck! We also had a sample of the nduja spicy sausage paste which was so good – perfect level of spice.
More good choices for the main dishes split into easy to navigate sections. We had the Cheeseburger and Chips and the Butternut Squash Risotto with Mascarpone. Both were large portions and the risotto was a good level of creaminess and flavour.
We couldn’t possibly fit in dessert although the chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream was calling me!
In summary
Another great addition to the Drake and Morgan brand and the Shoreditch restaurant and bar scene. For such a nice venue, the food is very reasonably priced and will no doubt attract city workers.
