The Lizard Peninsula is the most southerly point on the UK mainland and is simply stunning. The large cliffs are shaped by the Atlantic Ocean and are surrounded by countryside, beaches and nature. The sea truly is a glistening and turquoise and the walk from Lizard Point to Kynance Cove is a must do (you can read more about the walk here). This blog post recommends accommodation in the Lizard Peninsula near the village and coast.
Accommodation in the Lizard Peninsula
As we were embarking on a 6 day road trip around Cornwall, time was tight. We therefore wanted to stay close to Lizard village to base ourselves near Lizard Peninsula and Kynance Cove.
We found The Old Bakery B&B on Air B&B which was ideally located just a couple of minutes from the small village and less than a 5 minute drive from the National Trust car park for Lizard Point. If the car park is full, you can walk to the coast from the B&B in under 30 minutes.
The Old Bakery was originally built around 1935 and supplied bread for The Lizard village. The owners renovated the building and converted it to a bed and breakfast in 2015/16.
There are two rooms with king size beds, en-suite bathrooms, LCD TV’s, tea and coffee making facilities, bottled water and hair dryers. Each room also has its own patio with table and chairs.
Our room was decorated in a cute white and blue beach theme. There were thoughtful touches to the room including a small torch for walking to and from the village in the dark.
The breakfast room overlooks the fish pond in their adorable garden area. At present due to Covid-19 The Old Bakery are serving breakfast in two sittings at 8am and 8.45am.
They use locally sourced produce for breakfast where possible, including produce from their own garden and honey from their own bee hives (you must try it!)
The breakfast was easily one of the best I have had at a B&B. The selection included a Full English, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs with muffins and charcuterie and cheese selection. The latter was absolutely incredible with an extremely generous portion of fresh meats, cheeses and bread.
If you are looking for accommodation in the Lizard Peninsula, I thoroughly recommend the Old Bakery B&B. I wish we could have stayed longer!
