Steak Restaurant in Battersea
Macellaio is a steak restaurant in Battersea on Northcote Road around a 15 minute walk from Clapham Junction. It specialises in good Italian beef that is butchered and dry-aged in house. The meat is sliced in the restaurant and the cut presented to you before it is cooked.
Starters
We had an aperol spritz as an apertif which was only £4.50 in happy hour (until 8pm).
We were presented with a complimentary appetizer of bresaola and gorgonzola with some bread, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The Prosciutto Crudo hand carved with burrata was also absolutely delicious. The burrata was creamy but not too rich and you could taste how fresh the meat was.
Main Dishes
I couldn’t visit Macellaio and not try the meat! We chose the Rump Steak served with rocket and shaved Parmigiano Reggiano with a side of chips. It was well cooked and seasoned and good value for the quality of meat (£18 including the side).
My friend (a veggie) still had some decent choices for mains and chose the Trenette served with homemade Ligurian pesto, potatoes and green beans. It was actually SO tasty and only £8 – another bargain.
What goes well with meat? Well wine of course. They have over 100 wines in stock, including a good proportion from Italy’s many regions.
Overall
The staff were lovely and accommodating, which made our visit even more enjoyable. There was quite a long gap between the starters and mains which was shame but hopefully just a small blip. The other branches of Macellaio are in South Kensington, Exmouth Market and Union Street. Definitely a steak restaurant in Battersea worth visiting.
