Michael Nadra restaurant in Primrose Hill is an absolute hidden gem nestled along Regents Canal and is a spot really worth seeking out! The interior of Michael Nadra is stunning. With mustard yellows, greens, metallics, velvets and gorgeous artworks, it gives off a premium, classy feel from the minute you step inside.
The attentive, efficient and super friendly service starts the minute you ask for a table. This helps make you feel valued and looked after from the first interaction to the last, and makes all the difference to the whole experience. Both the head bartender and host were also ready with plenty of recommendations for the two of us dining!
The wine list is very extensive, with several pages highlighting all manner of red, whites and roses, reserve cellar fine wines as well as sparkling. Glasses start at £4.90, for a small glass, which is really reasonable for such a spot. We tried a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, which was recommended by the team, which was beautiful. The Muscat de Beaumes de Venise (£7) was a deliciously sweet option for alongside dessert too.
There is also a cocktail list featuring a good mix of classic and signature numbers from an Amaretto Sour to a Blackberry & Sage Margarita. The Hendrick’s Martini (£10.50) was a fantastic refreshing option. Consisting of Hendrick’s Gin, St Germain., honey, lemon and cucumber, it had a lightly citrus, fresh taste.
The Vampire Kiss Martini (£11) was our highlight. A signature cocktail created for Halloween, and kept due to popularity, it combines vodka, Henriot Champagne and Chambord and arrives in a red sugar crusted glass. It looks beautiful and tastes even better – pretty sweet, yet beautifully smooth.
The food menu features a handful of contemporary seasonal starters, mains and desserts as well as a set tasting menu. All the dishes sounded elegant and creative, from the sauteed scallops & squid with broccoli & cauliflower couscous & smoked paprika dressing, to the sea spaghetti & potimarron squash with romanesco broccoli, sage, yeast flakes, baby sorrel, pumpkin seed & verjus dressing.
The mains we tried arrived beautifully presented.The Steamed Seabass with prawn & Chive Dumplings, oriental greens, carrot & ginger puree & crab bisque sauce (£23) was personally recommended by one of the team. The dish looked like a piece of art. The fish was beautifully tender, the dumplings were a fantastic alternative to just greens or potatoes, and the buttery crab bisque sauce went perfectly with every component. The puree was smooth, fresh and zingy, adding a fantastic extra flavour to each mouthful.
The Celeriac & vacherin cheese pithivier with mashed potatoes, kale & mushroom madeira sauce (£21), was another fab meal. The pithivier was like a flaky wellington, with a super cheesy middle. It was very indulgent and rich – absolutely delicious. The mashed potato was creamy, and the mushroom madiera sauce added to that overall wellington feel.
We had to add a couple of sides too, going straight in for mains. The Triple Cooked Chips (£5) were chunky, more like wedges. They were beautifully cooked, fluffy in the middle. We would definitely recommend the Mix of Tenderstem broccoli, kale, green beans & pea shoots (£5) too, which were fresh, a la dente, and complemented both meals well.
As for dessert, this is not the place to resist. There are only four sweet desserts, as well as a cheese board, but it’s enough. We tried the Treacle Tart (£8.50), which was sticky, but not sickly sweet, with a fab crumbly crust. It came with clotted cream and raspberry sorbet, which is a refreshing alternative to just cream or ice cream. The raspberry flavour went very well with the treacl
The Chocolate Fondant (also £8.50) did however steal the show. It was super rich and chocolatey, with a superb melting middle. The salted caramel ice cream which came with it, just as indulgent and creamy, finished the dish wonderfully.
Michael Nadra is a stunning restaurant in Primrose Hill which radiates sophisticated and classy, yet chilled vibes. The team are attentive and friendly, the food is beautifully prepared and presented, and the cocktails are fantastic. We would definitely recommend dropping by for a meal, or at least a cocktail. The garden would make such a cute spot in the summer!
