Food & Drink at The Lanesborough

Our meal was outstanding – the food was so fresh, beautifully presented and paired with wine by the sommelier. We had the following from the menu:

Starters:

  • Orkney scallop, Marinda tomato, toasted hazelnuts, smoked rapeseed oil. It had a light, subtle nutty taste throughout wiht the rapeseed oil giving it a nice subtle smoky, woody flavour. Served ceviche style and paired really well with Sancerre (so subtle and light).
  • Coronation crab salad, curry leaf sabayon – salad as you wouldn’t recognise it. The crab was so light and paired beautifully with bombay potatoes, mango puree, bhaji crisp, and curry mousse introducing contrasting textures. Paired with Cloudy Bay with its tropical fruit notes.

Mains and sides:

  • Beef Wellington, Hen-of-the-woods mushroom, glazed carrot (for two to share). The dish had umami flavours which were not overly rich but seriously smooth in flavour. The beef was extremely soft, like cutting through butter – just how it should be. This was paired with a Cabernet Sauvignon & Shiraz blend which was slightly spicy with pepper notes coming through, which complimented the beef perfectly
  • Hash brown potatoes, Rachel cheese – very crispy and tasty potato.
  • Buttered spinach, garlic, chilli – wilted, buttery and vibrant in flavour for spinach.

Dessert:

  • Lemon tart, Earl Grey tea meringue, candied citrus fruit – very sweet and tart with a tangy citrus flavour and a crumbly, buttery crust. The candied fruits and meringue made for a beautiful top.

Overall

What a superb evening at this stunning 5 star hotel in London. It was an excellent experience throughout, from the service (Marco and Miha) to the food and paired wines. Raphael, the sommelier of the evening, was amazing. He not only paired our wines to each dish beautifully, but he educated us on each choice too. Given the five star experience, it does come with a price tag so one for a special occasion.
