Circolo Popolare, Fitzrovia

Italian Trattoria in Fitzrovia

Hailing from the Big Mamma group is Circolo Popolare Italian trattoria in Fitzrovia. The group is so popular in London it has opened five venues in Shoreditch, Covent Garden, Fitzrovia, Kensington and Marylebone.

Similar to the other venues I have visited – Gloria and Ave Mario – Circolo Popolare is extravagantly decorated with lots of foilage, floral, photos and drinks bottles! It was busy even on a Tuesday with a buzzing atmosphere.

The menu changes monthly depending on seasonal ingredients. In typical Italian style it is split between Antipasti, Primi Piatti, Secondi and Dolci, as well as pizzas.

Our highlight dishes were:

  • PIATTO DI PRODOTT – Crunchy grissini with Prosciutto di Parma, mozzarella di bufala and mixed olives.
  • THE ONE & TORTELLONI – Home-made cheesy tortelloni stuffed with a creamy stracciatella and ricotta heart, in a beautiful fresh tomato scarpariello sauce.
  • TORCIGLIONI AL RAGÙ DI SALSICCIA – Home-made torciglioni pasta with slow-cooked fennel and tomato sausage ragù, topped with grated Parmigiano.

Prices range from around £15 for pasta and £13 for pizza.

If you have room we thoroughly recommend the Incomparable Lemon Pie with a 5.9 inch meringue layer! We had it at Gloria and it was divine.
