Tapas Restaurant in Soho
Ember Yard is a fantastic tapas restaurant in Soho from the Salt Yard Group. The Salt Yard family was founded by Sanja Moll and Simon Mullins’ who took inspiration from their experiences and love of eating and drinking throughout Spain and Italy. Other restaurants in the group include: Salt Yard, Dehesa, and Opera Tavern.
Ember Yard specialises in dishes inspired by the amazing wood-fired grills of Spain and Italy. The restaurant is located in the heart of Soho over two floors with slick interiors. We dined downstairs in The Ember Bar on the stools whilst watching mixologist, Stefano, make his cocktail creations.
We obviously could not resist trying the cocktails given we were watching them being made. The cocktail list is concise with just over 15 choices. We had a Thyme Heals All with crocodile gin, lemon juice, galliano vanilla, egg white & thyme (£12) and the Il Profumo Di Maria with vodka, prosecco, violets, elderflower & cherry smoke (£11).
The gin cocktail was light and refreshing, a great aperitif before our meal. The Il Profumo was stronger and smokier but the violet and elderflower softened the cocktail. There are also many classic choices including a Bellini, Cosmopolitan, Martini and Margarita. With dinner we had a Gin Mare (Spanish) with arbequina olive, rosemary, thyme, basil & mandarin served with fever tree tonic (£11).
Charcuterie and Bar Snacks
This is the best part of the menu – I could have eaten the whole lot! We chose:
- Patatas Bravas with Alioli ( (£4.5)
- Padron peppers (£6)
- Chargrilled Flatbread, Thyme, Smoked Butter (£4.5)
- Chorizo, 8 month aged N’duja Orba and Manchego Ojo De Guadian (£12)
The patatas were small, crispy and moreish and the peppers had the perfect salty kick. The N’duja was AMAZING – so fresh, spicy and delicious, perfectly accompanied by the chorizo and manchego.
Tapas Dishes and Larger Plates
There are so many incredible sounding dishes to choose from. From the tapas we had:
- Char Grilled Prawns Al Ajillo & Romesco Bruschetta (£10.5)
- A mixture of Jamon, Leek and Manchego croquetas with bravas sauce and aioli and Smoked Haddock Croquetas with Lemon Ailoi (£6.5)
- Courgette Flower, Monte Enebro & Blossom Honey (£5.5)
The prawns were tasty but we thought 3 for £10.5 was a little steep. We loved the croquetas packed with filling and the courgette flower with the cheese and honey works so well together.
We ordered one dish off the larger plates – Membrillo Glazed Pork Ribs with spring onion, hazelnuts and smoked chilli jam (£20). The pork fell off the bone and the smoked chilli jam was a perfect addition.
Ember Yard is a relaxed tapas restaurant in Soho with lovely service and a great selection of dishes. Make sure you order the bar snacks and charcuterie to start your evening and a couple of cocktails! They also offer a great value sharing menu for £35pp.
