Cocktail Bar in Chinatown
Experimental Cocktail Club (or ‘ECC’) is a hidden cocktail bar in Chinatown on Gerrard Street. I saw a gentleman outside but he didn’t resemble the typical bouncer… So I ended up googling the address and realising ECC was next to Far East Chinese at number 13a. Confirmed – the gentleman was the bouncer!
ECC is split over two floors with stools at the bar and intimate tables dotted around. The venue is open until 6pm-3am Monday-Saturday and until midnight on Sunday. There is also a cover charge of £5 after 11pm. We walked in at 9pm on Wednesday without any trouble but you can also book.
Cocktails in Chinatown
The bartenders were welcoming upon arrival and throughout our visit. It is a French cocktail bar so the staff speak in French to each other quite a bit.
There is no detail on their website on their cocktail menu so it may change regularly. We had these cocktails:
- St Germain De Pres: Hendrick’s Gin, St Germain Liquer, elderflower, egg white, lime, spiced tincture and cucumber (£13.50)
- Old Cuban: Havana 3 Rum, ginger, fresh mint, Champagne & Angostura bitters (£13)
These were expertly crafted by the mixologists, presented well and tasted great! There are another 9 cocktails to choose from ranging from £12-14. ECC also offers a small food menu including olives, soda bread, charcuterie and cheeses.
ECC is a great speakeasy type cocktail bar in Chinatown offering a creative selection of cocktails in intimate surroundings. Including service, they are around £15 a cocktail so not a bar for every day if you’re on a budget!
