Burgers in London
Honest Burgers was started by Tom and Phill, with the first patty being flipped back in 2010. Since then, it’s become a well known name, with numerous branches not only serving burgers in London, but also in Brighton, Bristol, Cambridge, Cardiff, Liverpool, Manchester and Reading.
All of the branches have a consistent look and feel with stripped back interior with exposed brickwork, hanging lighting, relaxed canteen style seating and the menu on a blackboard on the walls. It’s simple, yet earthy and natural, and adds to the chilled experience.
The branch in Bank is pretty huge sitting across two levels with a bar upstairs and restaurant downstairs. The service is always friendly but not overbearing. Although it’s a more relaxed dining setting, and it can get very busy, we have never felt rushed or pushed out which is always a positive.
The menus are consistent across all venues, which makes things so much easier. The drinks menu is short and concise. There’s just four beers (at least one brew from a local brewery), two cocktails, one G&T, wine and a handful of soft drinks including homemade lemonade and iced tea.
The homemade Mint Lemonade (£3) is very minty and super refreshing. The zestiness comes through just a little too. It’s a delicious drink alongside a meaty or veggie burger. If you would rather go for a bottled soft drink, the Gingerella Ginger Ale (£2.75) was tangy, light and refreshing. We love the fact Honest Burgers has at least one local brew on the menu, and they’re also reasonably priced too.
The food menu is just as concise with just four beef burger options, one chicken and two veggie. Honest Burgers also launches a special every few weeks. Every burger comes with their signature rosemary salted chips as standard. It’s a simple menu, but it really works.
The beef patties always come medium rare as standard, so if you like yours a bit more well done then just let them know! The medium rare burgers are always juicy and super tasty, perfectly cooked, pink in the middle. The Honest (£11.50) is a classic consisting of red onion relish, smoked bacon, cheddar, lettuce and pickles, it’s nothing new or inventive, it’s just done OH SO WELL.
The most recent special was the Texas (£12.50). A special in collaboration with Bull’s Eye – Honest beef, steak chilli, Monterey Jack, Bull’s-Eye BBQ Sauce, crispy onions, sour cream, lettuce and pickles. The steak chilli which sat on top of the juicy patty consisted of a pulled meat, which was rich and absolutely delicious. Along with the cheese, crispy onions (which added more crunchy texture) and the slightly sweet BBQ sauce, it was one dreamy burger. Well worth getting messy for, and going in with your hands!
We have also heard great things about the plant burger (£13.50) from our vegan friends. With a plant-based burger, vegan gouda, Rubies Chipotle ‘mayo’, mustard, red onion, pickles and lettuce, even the meat-eaters among us are tempted to order this next time.
Of course the chips went down a treat. It’s all about those rosemary salted chips. Somewhere between fries and chunky chips, these are nice and salty with a good touch of rosemary. They have a great texture too; crispy on the outside, fluffy in the middle. We love that they’re included as standard with all burgers, and there’s always a good portion! We also can’t resist a dip. The Bacon Gravy (£2) was runny, but great for dunking a rosemary salted chip in. It was actually a tad spiced, which was a nice change. It was fab for a little burger dip too.
We always enjoy a trip to Honest for some great burgers in London! The friendly service and relaxed dining vibes make it a fantastic location for a chilled catch-up. The food is consistently good and we love how they mix it up with the specials!
