Hawksmoor

Steak restaurant in the City

Hawksmoor is an absolutely fantastic steak restaurant in the city and oozes quality without being pretentious. We have visited three times and have never been disappointed.

The Drinks

There are a great selection of cocktails, wines and spirits available at Hawksmoor.  We opted for ‘softies’ and tried the pleasantly fruity Earl grey iced tea (£4.50) with lemon and passion fruit as well as the refreshing seasonal lemonade (£4.50) with syrup, lemon and soda.

The Main Menu

The Potted Beef, Bacon and Yorkshires and Hawksmoor Smoked Salmon starters were fantastic. The two large yorkshires are served with potted beef and delicious gravy – we just ripped and dipped.

Their meat is sourced from The Ginger Pig and is so tender and flavoursome. We shared the Porterhouse, Prime Rib and Chateaubriand and were so impressed. The sides are out of this world too. The mac and cheese is my favourite in London – it is made with five different cheeses and you can tell. It is rich, cheesy and just so tasty. The mash, triple cooked chips and spinach are all winners. Lastly, make sure you try the bernaise and peppercorn sauce!

We finished off the meal with a Sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream.  Just like the mac and cheese, this has got to be one of the best in London. It is so rich, moist and has a generous amount of delicious sauce.

Lunch Menu

Hawksmoor have recently launched an exciting (and rather reasonably priced) summer lunch menu (2 courses £25, 3 courses £28).

Starters available included a heritage tomato salad, potted beef and bacon with yorkshires and a spring herb salad.  We went straight for the summer special mains and chose the Langoustine, scampi & chips and The Big Matt.  The langoustine were fabulously crispy and succulent and served with creamy mushy peas and a punchy and fresh tartare sauce.

The Big Matt is Michelin star chef Matt Brown’s cheeky take on the iconic Big Mac we all know.  Whilst it may be comparable to look at, Matt has seriously dialled the quality up with this creation – made up of two tender, juicy patties with a deliciously moreish Hawksmoor special sauce, iceberg, onions and pickles for a great tangy kick.  We were also seriously swooning over the quality of the fries and chips served with our dishes!

Overall

Hawksmoor is an awesome steak restaurant in London and definitely one I keep going back to! The food is amazing, the service is always great and a visit certainly does not disappoint.
