Situated near Charing Cross, the Lobby in Old Aldwych is a gorgeous hotel bar in London. Open from early morning to late evening, the bar offers a relaxed yet sophisticated area. It is perfect for meeting clients, dining with friends or celebrating a date. The decor is bright and vibrant with high ceilings, quirky scatterings of art, florals and comfortable seating areas.
Spirit of Adventure
Pedro Paulo and his team have designed The Spirit of Adventure (or liquid journey around the world) menu. It features 21 cocktails from around the world to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the bar.
The team spent time exploring the globe and researching local ingredients for inspiration for the menu. They wanted to provide guests with the opportunity to experience some of the world’s best flavours whilst relaxing in the exquisite surroundings of the Lobby Bar.
There are so many great cocktails on the Spirit of Adventure Menu. Celebrating all things Belfast, we were drawn to the Giant’s Causeway (£17). The cocktail featured Bushmills Black Bush Irish Whiskey, Freshly Brewed Cold Arabica Coffee, Tonka Bean Syrup and Honey Whipped Cream. This was a real elegant twist on the Irish coffee topped with a sprinkling of gold dust.
The Midnight Sun (£17) from Iceland focuses on the nature of Geysers and volcanoes. It comes with Smoked Reyka Vodka, Biberry Liqueur Fresh Grapefruit Juice and Smoke and Oat Bitters. We should have guessed from the description but it was too smoky for me!
The Ferry Rock (Scotland) (£17) was my joint favourite which features Butterfly Pea Flower infused Hendrick’s Gin. It is an extremely unknown spice which has the unique ability to change colour! It is originally blue but when blended with an acid ingredient such as lemon it turns a vibrant shade of violet. The yellow decoration represents the Girvan horizon where the Hendricks distillery is based.
Our other favourite was the Whispering Gallery (£19) with City of London gin, tea and bergamot cordial, elderflower liqueur, English sparkling wine and edible gold leaf. It was beautifully presented and so light and refreshing.
If you don’t fancy any of the Spirit of Adventure cocktails, their main menu has a range of classics on offer. The team are also very happy to make a cocktail off menu.
We loved the Old Fashioned Trolley featuring bourbon, tequilla and rum. A member of the team personally visits your table and explains the history of the Old Fashioned before mixing it in front of you. Ours was absolutely top notch.
We were also super impressed with the Boulevardier with bourbon, campari and vermouth. Similar to a Negroni, the gin is swapped out for whiskey which adds warmth to the cocktail.
We absolutely loved this amazing hotel bar in London. The cocktails and service were incredible and the whole atmosphere was wonderful. There is a live singer on a Friday from 6pm which was the icing on the cake for me!
