Penthouse Apartment in St Julian’s, Malta with Terrace

Where to stay in St Julian’s

Malta is a small island in the Mediterranean, which stays fairly warm all year round. We visited in early November and it was between 20-24 degrees, which was very pleasant compared to the UK! It’s only 27km long and 14.5km wide so is easily accessible with a car, public transport or taxis (Bolt is used in Malta). We hired a car through Avis – the Maltese drive on the same side of the road as the UK which is very helpful! We stayed in an apartment in St Julian’s, which is a resort town on the east coast of Malta, just 20 minutes from the airport.

Penthouse Apartment in St Julian’s

The Duplex Penthouse is located in a quiet street off Balluta Bay in between St Julian’s and Sliema. It is located on the third and fourth floors accessible by lift with an internal area of 100 m2. The apartment has two double bedrooms, each with their en-suite bathroom on the lower floor, and a kitchen, living and dining area plus a toilet on the upper floor. There is a spacious terrace with large sofa and umbrella and views of Valletta.

The hosts, Jean-Pierre and Josanne, live opposite the apartment and are incredibly helpful and welcoming. Upon arrival they leave a basket of fruit from the farmers market, a bottle of fizz, nuts, juice, and croissants. There’s also the essentials in the cupboard including tea, coffee and oil.

Location of the Apartment

The apartment is located in between St Julian’s and Sliema, just a 5 minute walk from Balluta Bay and 15 minutes from Sliema waterfront. From the waterfront, you can get the water taxi to Valletta in just 10 minutes. There is a bus stop less than 5 minutes away and a couple of convenience stores.

Driving distance wise, we were around 20 minutes from Mdina, 25 minutes from the Blue Grotto and 45 minutes from the port to Gozo.

Overall

At just over £100 a night, available through Air B&B, this large apartment in St Julian’s is great value for money. The stand outs are the hosts attention to detail and welcoming manner, the terrace and the convenient location.
