Where to eat in Cambridge

If you are visiting Cambridge, then you will not be short on places to eat. This blog post includes a number of recommended restaurants in Cambridge. Other restaurants that we haven’t visited but have been recommended are Trinity, Midsummer House (2 Michelin star) and The Oak Bistro.

Cambridge Chop House

Situated right by the famous King’s College is Cambridge Chop House. The restaurant is spread over 2 floors with large glass fronted windows overlooking the college and the ground floor has rustic seating, a wine cellar and a private room.

The Cambridge Chop House specialises in cuts & chops of meat with all steaks at least 28 day aged and sourced from within the UK. Pictured below is the large sharing Tomahawk steak.

If you are looking for a bargain, the set menu available from 11.30am – 6.30pm Monday – Thursday is great value. 2 courses are £20.00 and 3 courses are £25.50.

Ivy Brasserie Cambridge

The Ivy Brasserie in Cambridge is part of the popular Ivy Collection. The bright, floral decor is always a stand out and the breakfast dishes and service were great. We loved the Buttermilk Pancakes with Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries with Greek yoghurt, lemon balm and warm red berry sauce and the Scrambled Eggs and Smoked Salmon.

The set lunch / dinner menu is great value with 2 courses at £18.95 and 3 courses £23.90. It’s available Monday – Wednesday 11.30am – 10.00pm and Thursday – Friday 11.30am – 6.30pm.

The Old Bicycle Shop Cambridge

Situated on Regent Street is The Old Bicycle Club. It is named after an iconic bicycle shop – Howes Cycles – which had been open for 173 years and claimed to be the oldest bicycle shop in the country. Apparently Charles Darwin even bought a bike from Howes Cycle. The gastropub has retained the ‘bicycle’ theme with saddles and handlebars designed as wall art.

It’s open daily for brunch, lunch and dinner with a varied menu, some of which has some Mediterranean influences. Starters include Whipped Feta, baked courgette & pesto and Beef Carpaccio with Main dishes including Roasted Miso Aubergine, Harissa marinated chicken kebab and Sirloin Steak & Chips.

Flat Iron

If you love steak, Flat Iron is one of the best restaurants in Cambridge. This restaurant is the first for the company outside of London and is located right by Market Square and the church of Great Saint Mary’s. The signature Flat Iron Steak is only £13 with side dishes including creamed spinach and beef dripping chips only £4.

Honest Burgers

This restaurant in Cambridge is great for burger lovers whether that’s beef, chicken or vegetarian/vegan. The rosemary fries that are served with all burgers as part of the price are the BEST. There are also rotating monthly specials.

The Chilli with Honest beef, bacon, chilli cheese, Honest hot sauce, shoestring fries, red onion, lettuce and pickled red jalapenos is my favourite.
