Restaurants in Varenna
Varenna is one of the most amazing places I have visited! Set out below is a list of some fantastic restaurants in Varenna.
This is not the number 1 restaurant in Varenna on Trip Advisor for nothing! Tucked down one of the side streets off the square is La Cavitappi, a beautiful and quaint restaurant with only 5 tables inside and 3 outside so you should definitely reserve in advance.
The staff were very friendly and helpful and we decided to order, in Italian style, first and second courses (even though I knew I would struggle!). The first courses of Ravioli with sage and butter and gnocchi were so tasty and, as expected, fairly decent portions.
For the second course we had strips of beef with cherry tomatoes, spinach and cheese and beef fillet – both looked medium to rare (if you don’t want it pink definitely order medium), which were both flavoursome.
My other half managed to squeeze in a dessert which was dark chocolate terrine with pistachio! Accompanied by some lovely rose wine, the meal for two was €90 and absolutely worth it.
Being lake facing, I was expecting Bar II Molo to be expensive. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw some of the main meals were actually less than €10! The views of the lake are absolutely stunning and you can just relax with a wine, beer or, in my case, a Aperol Spritz!
We were hungry so opted for a bruschetta, tomato based pasta dish and a spinach pizza, both of which were pretty good!
The bill came to less than €50 so definitely worth a visit!
Next to Bar II Molo is Nilus, similarly located facing the lake. Again, surprisingly, the food was very reasonably priced.
We had a delicious risotto and pasta dish and a couple of drinks for around €40. The service was good too with our waiter telling us more about Varenna.
Slightly outside the centre of Varenna in Pino is this gem of a restaurant. They offered a pick up and drop off service from Villa Monti and the restaurant is around a 5 minute drive.
There is a real homely feel to this restaurant and was clearly popular with the locals. We sat outside on the terrace area and admired the stunning views.
We had an amazing risotto with bresoala to begin followed by succulent lamb chops and a fillet steak. The service was good and a meal for two with a bottle of prosecco was €80.
This restaurant is based on the main square and offers a number of tables outside. We visited twice – once just for some wine and the second time for food.
We had the lasagne and the pizza with salami and rocket – both tasty and reasonably priced and the service was friendly! Bill for two with drinks around €60.
