The Mayor of Scaredy Cat Town

Secret Bar in London

‘I am here to see the Mayor’ are the words you need to whisper to get into this secret bar in London. How has it taken me so long to walk through the Smeg Fridge at The Breakfast Club Spitafields to visit the mayor?!

Entering the dimly lighted speakeasy, you notice vintage wall art and furniture and quirky signage. The bar is small and cosy and played a great selection of music when we visited (80s, 90s and more recent songs).

The Cocktails

We loved the selection of cocktails with plenty of choice with a variety of spirits. We had:

  • FLOWER POWER: Tanqueray gin, St Germain elderflower, apple, lime, homemade lavender syrup, egg white, mint, cucumber,
    ginger (£11)
  • LADY IN RED: Pink pepper gin, raspberry compote, lemon juice, egg white, rose water, pink peppercorns (£9)
  • THYME TO GET FUNKY: Ocho blanco tequila, Campari, pink grapefruit, lime homemade rasberry & thyme shrub, rhubarb bitters, Fever Tree Mediterranean tonic (£9)
  • TIKI DO YOU LOVE ME: Gosling’s dark rum, Wray & Nephew overproof rum, falernum, passionfruit, coconut, lime, cinnamon, Angostura bitters (£10)

The Lady In Red was the winning cocktail with the peppery overtones but all were presented beautifully. The table service was friendly and the staff were happy to give recommendations.
