The Savoy

5 Star London Hotel

The Savoy is an iconic 5 star London hotel dating back to the 1880s on the Strand, near Covent Garden. We had afternoon tea at The Thames Foyer which had a beautiful glass dome with comfortable sofas and a pianist serenading guests.

The Afternoon Tea

The sandwiches were a step above the normal afternoon tea I am used to. We had a selection of five:

  • Roast beef of sirloin with cucumber and tarragon cream
  • Coronation Chicken on olive bread
  • Smoked Salmon and creme fraiche
  • Classic egg salad with mustard cress
  • Mozzarella, beef tomato, basil and balsamic glaze on herb and spinach bread.

The coronation chicken and the mozzarella sandwiches were our favourites.

My favourite part of afternoon tea is always the warm scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam! This time they also came with lemon curd which was a nice surprise.

On to the pastries, we had a Raspberry Tartlet, Strawberry Macaroon, Apricot Delice, Pure Dark Mousse and Coffee and Hazlenut eclair followed by  Victoria sponge cake and Banana and Milk Chocolate Cake. I certainly had my sugar fix that day. They were moist and tasty and the raspberry tartlet was the best.

The service was absolutely spot on and the selection of sandwiches and cakes / pastries was plentiful, with staff asking us if we wanted more on a frequent basis!

The afternoon tea with a glass of champagne was £65. For a special occasion, this is an absolute must at this gorgeous London hotel.
