Gastropub in Lancaster Gate
The Stablehand is a 19th century gastropub in Hyde Park, nestled right near Lancaster Gate station. It’s tucked in a charming mews location, which is great to get away from the hustle and bustle of Central London.
The pub is steeped in history with Winston Churchill said to have frequented at times. If you’re lucky on the terrace you can also catch a glimpse of horses going by from one of central London’s last two stables.
The Stablehand embraces British ingredients by aiming to be London’s only gastropub sourcing all ingredients from the British Isles. The pub also celebrates British winemakers with many wines sourced from vineyards in the English and Welsh countryside. We had the following dishes:
- Severn & Wye Smoked Salmon, Fennel & radish – A light, fresh and vibrant summer starter
- Atlantic Cod, Leek, Jersey Royal potatoes & clam cream sauce
- Slow Roasted Suffolk Lamb Shoulder, Peas, Jersey Royal potatoes & silver skin onion. This was a melt in the mouth, delicious main dish
- Yorkshire Rhubarb Bakewell Tart served with rich clotted cream
The British dishes were fresh, tasty and beautifully presented. Great to see so many GF options too.
