BARS IN LISBON
PHARMACIA: R. Mal. Saldanha 1, Portugal
Right by the beautiful view over Lisbon in Santa Catarina lies Pharmacia, a bar / restaurant set out like a pharmacy – there are old drug store cabinets along the walls and I saw some wine bottles resting in ice buckets made of first aid kits!
We visited Pharmacia for some drinks – lovely outdoor area with sloped grass on the front and comfortable chairs. Selection of cocktails available around 9 Euros each and a chilled out vibe with a small jazz band playing.
Park Rooftop Bar: Calcada do Combro 58, Lisbon 1200-115
ABSOLUTE HIDDEN GEM in Barrio Alto. Park is situated on the top floor of a parking block – you literally head into the parking lot and go to the lift to the fifth floor.
The bar and rooftop outside is beautiful and the views are stunning over the river and bridges of Lisbon. For such a lovely place, the drinks were reasonable priced and the cocktails were fantastic! Gin Garden pictured below:
Park can get quite packed so try and manoeuvre your way through the crowds to the back of the rooftop or just get stuck in and dance with the crowd. The music was rnb and hip hop and just brilliant.
Open daily (apart from Sunday) from about 1pm and closes at 2/3am.My favourite bar in Lisbon by a long way – unpretentious and reminded me of good old quirky East London 🙂
If you want to stay out late and have some fun then travel to “Pink Street” in Cais do Sodre with bars and clubs open until 6am!
It is more cheesy than other areas in Lisbon but there are so many different bars and clubs that you can pop in and out of which is fun – there are old school discos like Tokyo and Rotterdam and bars including Copenhagen and Viking with some offering a free drink on arrival!
Music box is a good place to go for live music and then a DJ! There are also burlesque shows you can go and see.
LUX NIGHTCLUB: Av. Infante D. Henrique, Armazém A, Cais da Pedra a Sta Apolónia, 1950-376 Lisboa
Lux is partly owned by Hollywood actor John Malkovich and is a three floor superclub with a beautiful roof terrace.
It is fairly swanky so be prepared to dress up a little – four girls had no trouble getting in (12 Euros entrance) but imagine the club can be more difficult with men. The drinks are anywhere between 7 and 12 Euros. The frozen daiquiri was fantastic:
The design is swanky and stylish and the club is very spacious. The music is generally house which, unfortunately, was not my scene. Others may enjoy it more and it is open until 6am!
