Restaurant near Richmond
Bingham Riverhouse is a luxury hotel and award winning restaurant near Richmond (around 15 minutes from the station). The restaurant has a fabulous terrace and views that stretch over the Thames which is great for those sunny days.
There are a wide variety of wines on the menu and a friendly sommelier on hand to offer advice. We had a fruity New Zealand Yealands Land Made Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough (£8/£14 glass). This was the perfect accompaniment to our seafood dishes.
We also tried the cocktails as there was a great selection of martinis. We had the Cucumber martini and Kiwi martini (£11 each). Both were perfect cooling numbers for a warm evening. The kiwi naturally had a hint more sweetness and both had a lovely crispness in taste.
The A La Carte menu offers 2 courses for £37/3 courses for £45. To start the evening we went for Confit salmon with crispy oyster and apple. The apple lent a welcome lift to the salmon and the oyster was fried to perfection. We also especially enjoyed the freshness of the Watercress risotto with Thai pickled shallots, broad beans, horseradish cream starter. It was a really vibrant summer dish that sang with pops of flavour.
Mains Dishes and Dessert
Continuing with ordering light summery dishes we were drawn to the Salt baked beetroot with rainbow chard, quinoa, avocado, pine nut dressing. It was incredibly light and the texture of the beet was delicious. The Pan fried sea bream with razor clams, romseco, jersey royals, spring onions, tomato, soft herbs was a real favourite. Perfectly cooked flaky fish with delicious potatoes, a hearty dish we thoroughly enjoyed.
For dessert the Lemon posset caught our eye served with white chocolate, shortbread crumble and raspberry sorbet. It was lovely and sharp and incredibly creamy – great flavours. We would have loved a little more crumble as the pop of texture really set the dish off nicely.
We also tentatively ordered the Bitter chocolate not knowing what to expect. It was a chocolate pudding that was not (thankfully!) hugely bitter and more dark and rich. The tropical fruit, coconut sorbet and white chocolate snow balanced the chocolate really well. It was a very sumptuous end to our meal!
Bingham Riverhouse is a charming, traditional restaurant near Richmond that balances comfort and polished service very well. The dining room is quirkily adorned with bookshelves of hundreds of penguin classics and the views out to the river make for a memorable meal. It is a wonderful spot for a special occasion (the parents will love it here!) with top notch service, impeccable dishes and calming views. The restaurant is a real gem worth travelling a little further out for if you are not West London based.
