Kazu

Kazu is a contemporary and intimate Japanese restaurant in Fitzrovia. With a lot of great restaurants in the area it is tough to stand out against the competition but Kazu wipes the floor with them. With Izakaya style dishes with a fancy twist, that wonderful Japanese service and gorgeous décor it is a recipe for perfection!

We had the pleasure of trying the chef’s tasting menu when we visited. To start we had a beautiful Baby Spinach Salad: with spicy salmon in a yuzu dressing (£9.80). The spinach was fresh and was perfectly complimented by the yuzu dressing which was full of citrus flavour. The salmon was raw, fresh and seasoned perfectly. For our next course we had Gyu Tataki: thin slices of seared beef fillet in ponzu sauce (£14.50). This was absolutely delicious – the beef melted in your mouth and the dressing was spicy and packed with flavour.

Next up was Rock Shrimp Tempura: with spicy yuzu sauce (£13), crispy tempura batter and soft tasty prawns inside. The yuzu sauce was like a flavoured mayo and complimented the tempura. Our absolute favourite was the Fisherman’s Roll: chopped tuna, salmon, butterfish, yellowtail marinated with spicy miso, topped with seared salmon and pickled wasabi (£15). Sushi of the heavens! All of the fish was fresh and the marinated yellowtail really shone through. The seared salmon had a great flavour and all together it was simply delicious.

Finally we had the Black Cod: marinated in white miso paste (£21.50). This dish is a popular one and it is easy to see why. The cod was so buttery in flavour and the texture was incredible – it melted in your mouth.

Kazu has a large range of wines, Japanese whiskey, vodka and sake to pair with the great food. We opted for our favourite Japanese beer, Kirin Ichiban. There are also a great array of teas and soft drinks.

Kazu is a gorgeous Japanese restaurant in Fitzrovia with really impressive food. The staff and chef create a great experience and the food really is outstanding  – we would highly recommend a visit.
