The Crown is a beautiful pub opposite Victoria Park on Grove Road with gorgeous interior decoration, particular upstairs in the Paper Dining Room and the Victoria Room which have small balcony areas for al fresco dining.
The menu focuses on hearty British seasonal dishes for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. We were lucky enough to have dinner sat outside on the terrace (which does have heaters if it becomes a little chilly).
For starters, we had the Smoked Duck Breast, Yorkshire fettle, watermelon, toasted hazelnuts and the Chorizo Croquette, burnt apple puree, taragon mayonnaise. I was intrigued about the mixture of flavours with the duck breast but I thought they really complimented one another. I also loved the chorizo croquette which was tasty and filling.
On to the mains, we had the Dorset Lamb fillet, buckwheat, radish, cucumber, pomegranate, radish and sorrel gremolata from the summer menu, which was a generous portion of lamb but still felt quite light and summery. I also could not resist the Pork, smoked bacon & maple sausages, Mashed potato & crispy shallots, which was TOP NOTCH.
We couldn’t quite fit dessert in but had an absolutely lovely evening, felt well looked after and I can’t wait to return given it is only a 15 minute walk away!
On 13 August, they are also launching a new bottomless brunch menu every Sunday from 10-12 with you can feed yourself at the Breakfast Bar full of granola, toast, have a main dish AND all the Prosecco or Bloody Mary’s you can manage in 2 hours for just £20 per person! What a bargain.
