Turkish Restaurant in Islington
Liman is a lovely family run Turkish Restaurant in Islington situated near Chapel Market. They place emphasis on welcoming customers to their home and providing delicious dishes in comfortable, neighbourhood like surroundings. As such, the service was very friendly throughout our visit.
We particularly loved the starters on the menu and could have chosen so many. The Oven Baked Halloumi Cheese with grilled cherry tomato, red -green peppers, Crete extra virgin olive oil was delicious (£6.4) and a rather large portion. The Beetroot Borani served with avocado, strained yoghurt and toasted hazelnut was equally great and the two flavours perfectly complemented each other (£5.4).
On to mains and the Lamb Beyti (minced lamb with garlic and parsely cooked on a charcoal grill with rice and salad) (£14.7) was another favourite. The lamb was so succulent with no hint of dryness. We also tried the Chicken Kebab with yoghurt sauce served on a bed of toasted bread with garlic yoghurt, tomato sauce and drizzle of butter (£15.5).
We would return for the desserts alone! The Chocolate Truffle Cake (£5.9) was a gorgeous and indulgent treat. It was also presented so beautifully with pistachio and rose on top. The House Burma Baklava (£5.9) was also the perfect sweet end to a lovely meal.
Liman is a great Turkish restaurant in Islington for reasonably priced and tasty dishes in homely surroundings. They also offer a two course set lunch menu from Monday to Friday (12-3) for only £11.50 which comes with rice salad and bread. Absolute bargain.
