Japanese Udon in London
Marugame Udon is THE place to go for Japanese udon in London. It has around 800 (!) sites in Japan and a further 250 around the world so clearly the concept works well. Their first branch opened recently near Liverpool Street with another in O2 Greenwich opening shortly after.

The udon noodles are made daily from just three ingredients – wheat flour, salt and water – all from their open kitchen. The majority of the menu is unsurprisingly udon based with a few rice based options. Prices start from only £3.45 for a bowl of udon with dashi for dipping which is exceptional value. You just approach the open kitchen with your tray, order your main dish and then choose your tempura side and condiments.

Dishes at Marugame Udon
We loved the Beef Nikutama: udon with beef and caramelised onions in a sweet and smoky BK dashi broth with a poached Onsen Egg. There was such a great depth of flavour to the dish and it was a very generous portion! The Chicken Katsu Curry Rice bowl was another excellent dish (again such a decent size!).

The other speciality at Marugame Udon is their range of tempura which changes daily and can include vegetable and chicken gyoza, chicken karage, courgette, prawn and squid tempura and pumpkin korokke which start from under a £1.
Marugame Udon is a welcomed addition to Liverpool Street which is great for takeaway and eating in at affordable prices.
