Mr Foggs’s Residence

Cocktails in Mayfair

Mr Fogg’s is a very popular chain of bars in London. Starting off in the lovely cocktail bar in Mayfair five years ago, Mr Fogg’s Residence, it now has two venues in Covent Garden and one in Fitzrovia.

The bars are named after the famous Phileas J. Fogg, Esq. who embarked upon his journey around the world on 2 October 1872. He had a bet with members of the Reform Club that he could complete his trip within 80 days.  Cue detectives, crime, love and surprise, Mr Fogg somehow managed to win his wager!

Tipsy Tea: The Cocktails

We visited MrFogg’s cocktail bar in Mayfair on Bruton Lane for their Tipsy Tea! You could easily walk past this bar as is it off the beaten track! Look out for the colourful flowers outside and the gentleman greeting you at the door. The bar is beautifully decorated with lots of memorabilia from Mr Fogg’s travels including a hot air balloon, animals, clocks, compasses and lots of other gadgets and devices.

Tipsy tea is served from 3pm on Sundays and you can choose from a spirit based teapot cocktail or a champagne cocktails. You can choose from a teapot each for £40pp or you can upgrade to bottomless spirit cocktails for £62pp or bottomless champagne and spirit cocktails for £72pp. We were greeted with a passion fruit and wine cocktail on arrival with a hint of pineapple. It was really rather refreshing!

Following this we had “A Tropical Tincture” with green tea, passion fruit and mango infused in Reyka vodka, aperol aperitif, homemade lavender and orange syrup, passion fruit juice and lime juice.  This was delicious  and a little sour. We also had “The Drunken Duchess” with Reyka Vodka, creme de mure, cranberry, lemon and veuve clicquot champagne, which was much sweeter.

Tipsy Tea: The Food

For afternoon tea we had a chicken tikka wrap, ham and piccalilli sandwich, cream cheese and cucumber sandwich and a smoked salmon and cream cheese roll. For my veggie friend, she had sun dried tomatoes and cream cheese  and olive and hummus. The cakes were absolutely fantastic! We had pastel de nata (Portuguese custard tart) – not as good as Lisbon obviously but still tasty. The red velvet cake was so moist and had the perfect amount of icing and the chocolate brownie was so rich and gooey!! The home-made plum cake was great and tasted quite like a cherry bakewell. For once I actually managed to finish my afternoon tea (!) but it was enough!

Whilst having tipsy tea we were entertained by a pianist playing live music with a really good variety of songs! There was also a magician performing tricks which made me very excited!

For the atmosphere, food and service, the tipsy tea was worth £40 per person. We loved Alex who served us – he had a great sense of humour and was very accommodating. Mr Fogg’s is one of the most creative bars in London and we would happily return for these excellent cocktails in Mayfair.
