Pont De La Tour

Restaurant in Tower Bridge

Pont De La Tour is a gorgeous restaurant in Tower Bridge, based in Shad Thames. We loved the location walking down by the River Thames. It has a lovely terrace area overlooking the bridge with fairy lights and blankets in the winter.

Julien Imbert, Head Chef of Pont De La Tour, aims to combine traditional French cooking with a modern touch. The restaurant is in good hands with Julien who initially worked at Sketch followed by  lead positions at both Dinner by Heston Blumenthal and Berners Tavern and Head Chef at Jason Atherton’s City Social.

The bar and grill offers more of a casual brassiere type dining with some classic dishes on offer. We dined in the restaurant in intimate surroundings and had a lovely table by the window overlooking the river. From the outset the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and we had a sommelier offer us a wine pairing.

We began with a couple of glasses of champagne (it was my birthday!) and some warm freshly baked bread. On to the starters we had the Ham Hock terrine, pickled baby onion, truffle mayonnaise and capers and the Cured Salmon, miso mayonnaise, pickled cucumber, lemon gel which were so beautifully presented. The Ham Hock was served with warm toast and was one of the best I have ever had!

Main Dishes

On to the mains we went for the chefs recommendation of Launceston fillet of lamb, braised shoulder, black garlic emulsion, lemon yoghurt and the Beef fillet, fondant potato, confit shallot, braised ox cheek.  Both meats were perfectly cooked and well seasoned and the ratatouille with the lamb was a great touch.

Dessert Time

There was barely any room for dessert so we opted for the Lemon Curd, thyme shortbread, meringue, liquorice ice cream. This was unusual but complimented by the texture of the meringue and the lemon curd was offset by the white chocolate – it was melt in the mouth delicious!

I like to swap my desserts for a cocktail so chose one from the Luscious and Rich section of the menu – the Don Pasquale -spiced rum, Armagnac, rhubarb liquer, Pimm’s agave syrup, lemon and Peychauds bitters – served in a huge tumbler with one large cube of ice, this was exactly as the menu said – luscious and rich.
